2012 Most Innovative Product: Interphase Penveu

There’s a theme here—just as the Epson interactive projector can turn any surface into a screen, this little penveu device can do the same. It uses a combination of Embedded Computer Vision (also used in satellite, cruise missile, and smart bomb navigation systems), inertial sensing, and sensor fusion technology to operate as a pen or mouse. Or that’s how it was explained at Venture Beat’s DEMO Spring. We’re acknowledging the innovation while at the same time noticing that—as with many newbies—the company does not quite “get” our world. Penveu is $700, though that hasn’t stopped my local L.A. school district from trying it out. Innovation is going to come from outside our circle—it has to. Let’s see if this example has legs.
