2011 Innovative Product: Extron SME 100 H.264 Streaming Media Encoder

The underlying encoding technology was almost a decade in the making. Both that technology and the product implementation are steeped in AV culture. That’s a big part of what makes this product unique. While employing standards-based H.264/MPEG-4 AVC encoding and output, it acknowledges the decidedly non-standards-based reality of AV sources, supporting RGB and DVI inputs up to 1920x1200. But that understates the integrated scaler/switcher and EDID management that dynamically recognizes and manages varying hertz/pixel clock rates and accommodates the potpourri of computer and video resolutions pro AV throws at an encoder.
