NewBay Acquires Pro AV, Grows AV Content

As we go to press, our parent company NewBay Media announced the purchase of the assets of Pro AV from Hanley Wood, including the magazine’s web assets, editorial content, and subscriber lists. This brings another 18,000 readers to our AV/consumer electronics group, which includes our sister publications Systems Contractor News, AVTechnology, Healthcare AV, Digital Signage, Residential Systems, and Rental & Staging Systems.
This new group of readers brings the unduplicated readership of our AV/consumer electronics titles to 200,000, a number that demonstrates how much our industry has grown in the 23 years I’ve been an end user and a journalist.
The purchase also gives us access to Pro AV’s editorial content and web archives. The website proavonline.com will now redirect to svconline.com, and we will be incorporating Pro AV’s wealth of content into svconline.com.
Further, starting this month, we will launch a new newsletter under the Pro AV logo. Pro AV Today will aggregate relevant stories from across our sister publications and the Web at large. On Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, we’ll be highlighting key stories for you to help cut through the clutter of information out there. I’m looking forward to doing this newsletter; I’ve been attracted to the idea of curating the Web for sometime. Please let me know at firstname.lastname@example.org how we do; I really want to build something that gives you information you need.
We’re also accumulating some good webcasts this month including Pro Audio Meets IT: Advances in Small Format Mixers, and a session on multi-mic, multi-source mixing for live events, which will cover DSP processing for boardrooms, courtrooms, classrooms, and multi-purpose venues. We also have a new Crash Course on Teleconferencing specifically on acoustic echo cancellation and Jonathan Brawn’s primer on terms including HDbaseT, power over Ethernet, and some new wireless technologies. They’ll all be archived at svconline.com/webcasts.
Another opportunity to learn is coming up next month in Chicago (Oct. 6) and NYC (Oct. 27), when the Almo E4 AV Tour hits those cities. The all-day events are free and combine training courses with a product expo. You do need to register at www.almoproav.com/events/e4.
