Laser Components IG has unveiled a new series of fiber-optic switches for multimode fibers with core diameters of up to 600 µ m.

The switches of the new product families, mol 1xN and mol 2xN, combine extremely short switching times (only 2ms) with high reliability and a signal loss of less than 0.5dB, say company representatives, who guarantee a life expectancy of 108 switching cycles.

Laser Components' new switches are applicable to all fields using optical single-mode or multimode fibers, including telecommunications, sensor technology, optical spectroscopy, and biomedical technology. All switches are available in various configurations and come with or without a connector in either compact housing, table housing, or 19in. insertions.

The special micro-optical concept behind the fiber-optic switch is flexible and allows for the customized integration of additional optical functionality such as filtering and monitoring, says the company.
