CEDIA Award Winner Combines Hidden AV with State-of-the-Art Control

Winner Best Integrated Home Level 1 (less than $150,000)
These clients enjoyed the fast-paced yet meticulous reconstruction of their modest cape from its original form to a 5,500-square-foot home complete with a functional elevator and state-of-the-art AV systems throughout.
The complete project timeline including all construction was projected to be only three months to substantial completion. The two home theaters required three custom electronic lifts and one hidden electric screen, all to pop into use at the touch of a remote control.
The control aspect of this installation features a unique mix of Universal Remote RF/IR control, B&K multiroom keypad control and Lutron Homeworks control all working together to provide one completely integrated and powerful control system at a budget that would meet the client’s requirements. Planning, design, and installation of all lifts required careful scheduling and additional construction during the early phases of the brisk three-month reconstruction and installation schedule.
The great room home theater is based on a Yamaha DPX-1100 DLP projector and a hidden 116in. Draper electric screen. The projector is also hidden from sight when not in use and deploys from the ceiling with an electric lift. The custom-designed center channel/subwoofer lift deploys from below the floor of the great room and is installed just in front of the fireplace. This custom designed small “raising monolith” comprises two tandem subwoofers, phased correctly, with a center channel speaker that is mounted above and disconnected sonically from the two lower subwoofers.
The master bedroom home theater employs an electric lift that drops a 55in. plasma monitor down from the semi-vaulted ceiling. This, combined with five in-ceiling aimable speakers, makes for a stealthy master bedroom home theater that is not visible when not in use. The master bedroom RF/IR remote control has been programmed to control the plasma monitor lift, the master bedroom shades, the gas fireplace, the multi-room music system, and all applicable lighting scenes.
A six-zone B&K multi-room AV system with six audio keypads offers a true multi-zone audio solution and the Universal MX-850 remote control also controls five Sharp LCD monitors mounted on articulating arms throughout.
Custom engraved Lutron seetouch keypads are found in every possible area, replacing all local switches. Elaborate use was made of IR sensor Lutron keypads in locations requiring more comprehensive control. With 52 dimmable remote power modules, 31 multi-button keypads, and multiple car visor control, lighting control is everywhere.
All main AV equipment is separated into two separate areas, both of which use custom-sized pull-out-and-pivot rack assemblies for easy service and maintenance.
